WiSAR Researchers Guest Edit Sensors Special Issue on MIMO Antenna Design and Wireless Applications

Researchers from Atlantic Technological University’s WiSAR Lab are inviting submissions to a Special Issue of the international scientific journal Sensors, focusing on advancements in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna technology and its applications in wireless communications.

The Special Issue, titled “MIMO Antenna Design and Performance Enhancement for Wireless Applications”, is guest edited by three WiSAR researchers, Dr. Sahar Saleh, Dr. Tale Saeidi and Dr. Nick Timmons.

The submission deadline has recently been extended to 31 May 2027, providing researchers and academics with additional time to contribute their work to this important area of research.

Advancing MIMO Antenna Technology

As wireless communication systems continue to evolve, the demand for faster, more reliable and energy-efficient connectivity is increasing. MIMO antenna technology plays a significant role in addressing these challenges by using multiple antennas to transmit and receive signals, improving data transmission rates, communication reliability and overall network performance.

MIMO systems are central to modern wireless technologies, including 5G and emerging 6G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart devices and next-generation communication infrastructure.

However, designing high-performance MIMO antennas presents several technical challenges, including antenna miniaturisation, mutual coupling, isolation, bandwidth enhancement and maintaining reliable performance across increasingly complex wireless environments.

This Special Issue aims to bring together innovative research addressing these challenges, showcasing new approaches to antenna design, optimisation and performance enhancement for current and future wireless applications.

Supporting International Research and Collaboration

Through their involvement as Guest Editors, Dr. Saleh, Dr. Saeidi and Dr. Timmons are supporting the dissemination of research and encouraging international collaboration in antenna engineering and wireless communication technologies.

Their participation reflects WiSAR Lab’s ongoing research activities in wireless systems, antenna design and emerging communication technologies.

The Special Issue provides an opportunity for researchers from academia and industry to share original findings, explore emerging technical solutions and contribute to the development of more efficient and reliable wireless communication systems.

Call for Research Contributions

Researchers working in MIMO antenna design, wireless communications and related areas are encouraged to consider submitting original research to the Special Issue.

Contributions exploring novel antenna configurations, performance enhancement techniques, advanced materials, antenna integration and applications in emerging wireless technologies are particularly relevant to the broader theme.

The Special Issue is published in Sensors, an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by MDPI.

Extended submission deadline: 31 May 2027
