LYIT has an on-going research project called SMART WATER to develop a system to improve the reliability of hand pump boreholes in Uganda through remote monitoring and informed management. The low power monitoring device designed and developed by LYIT underpins the project. We have an 3rd year under-graduate opportunity available to develop a cloud based data management system.
Project Objective:
To develop a Microsoft Azure based dashboard which will interpret and display sensor data from the field.
Tasks:
• Database architecture selection and set-up on Azure
• Dashboard layout and UI design
• Data extraction from Internet of Things packet structure
• Dashboard web-server design
• Implementation of a user alert system
• Usage report generation tool
• User account management implementation with passwords and security features
Duration:
Up to 15 weeks
Output: Online dashboard for monitoring testbed deployed in Africa with related database structure. The system will be scalable to allow other devices to be added to the dashboard moving forward.
Gross Salary: €382.50 per week (equivalent to €1657.50 per month). Salary will be paid through LYIT and will be subject to PRSI and tax as required.
Requirements: Minimum – completed 3rd year in BSc (Hons) degree in Computer Science related degree with predicted average grade of 80%+
The applicant will be determined, tenacious, have an eye for detail, flair for visualisation of data (info graphics, etc) and have an understanding of good UX design.
A solid understanding of MS Azure. Strong database skills.
A team player with ability to take direction.
