Dr Jamie Roche is a Lecturer in Robotics and Automation in the Department of Mechatronic Engineering at ATU Sligo’s School of Engineering and Design and a visiting researcher at Loughborough University London.
Before coming to ATU, Jamie was a research fellow at Loughborough University London, working on the Multimodal Imitation Learning in Multi-Agent Environments (MIMIc) project funded by the EPSRC, supported by Chelsea Football Club and Toyota. Jamie holds a PhD, for which he was awarded the Wolfson studentship by Loughborough University, and a M.Sc. in digital technologies from Loughborough University London. Before moving to London, Jamie worked as a Consulting Forensic Engineer and an expert witness for the Irish Courts for seven years with Denis Wood & Associates.
During his time with Denis Wood & Associates, Jamie undertook a professional diploma in Accident Investigation. In 2008, Jamie graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an M.Sc. in Bioengineering. Before undertaking his Bioengineering degree, Jamie worked as a project engineer with Irish Rail, a Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Engineer with Help International (NGO) and a graduate Engineer at Schering Plough Pharmaceuticals. In 2002 Jamie graduated from Dublin City University with a B.Eng. in Mechatronics, and in 2000 Jamie was awarded a Dip.Eng. in Process Instrumentation and Control Systems from Institute Technology Carlow.
His research interests are sensor data fusion, free space detection, human activity recognition, social scene understanding, modelling of multi-agent systems with application to intelligent mobility, path planning and sports analytics.
