Christopher McDaid is a Research Engineer and industry PI at the WiSAR Lab. Christopher holds an MSc by Research in the area of wireless sensor networks, body area networks and data collection and analysis, and a BEng (Hons) in Embedded Systems Design. Christopher’s area of expertise is in PCB design and firmware development, with particular focus on the latest wireless technologies including Bluetooth Low Energy and low power wide area networks (LPWANs) such as Sigfox LoRa and NB-IoT.
Since joining the WiSAR team in 2012, Christopher has worked closely with a wide range of industry sectors, covering a variety of projects including IOT industry collaboration in agriculture, aquaculture, energy and automotive.
Some of Christopher’s most recent projects include:
- Design and development of a mobile water dosing system for golf courses
- Development of a long-range, low power platform for the monitoring of lone workers or elderly, using the latest LPWAN technologies
- Development of a retrofit smart pay system for laundrette wash machines
- Development of smart cyclist visibility accessories
- Conducting feasibility studies to determine the validity and/or advantage of incorporating new technologies into existing systems
