Agni Paul is a PhD researcher in the Department of Computing at Atlantic Technological University (ATU). His doctoral research, titled “Implementation of Virtual Reality in the Rehabilitation of Axial Spondyloarthritis (axSpA)”, focuses on developing immersive wearable technologies and serious games to support cervical pain rehabilitation.
Agni holds a Master’s degree by Research in Computing from Nottingham Trent University, UK, where he graduated with First Class Honours and received the Best Student in Cohort Award in 2018. He also completed a BA (Hons) in Digital Media – Computer Games Development at the University of Wales.
Before commencing his PhD, Agni worked as Project Lead for Mixed Reality Development in India, where he designed and deployed immersive reality-based training programmes and led teams developing game-based learning technologies. He also has extensive industry experience as a research engineer at WiSAR Lab and Technology Gateway, where he designed responsive dashboards for business resilience management and conducted UX research for data visualisation applications.
His research interests include virtual reality in healthcare, serious games for therapeutic intervention, wearable sensor systems, human-computer interaction, and digital health technologies. Agni has received multiple awards for his academic and research work, including the prestigious President’s Scholarship from the Government of Ireland (2021-2025) and an honorary invitation to present his mixed reality arthritis rehabilitation project at the University of Bath’s Spondyloarthritis Consortium (SPARC) in 2023.
Beyond research, Agni actively contributes to higher education as a part-time lecturer at Atlantic Technological University, delivering Level 8 and Level 9 modules in 3D Game Environments, Research Practice, and Strategic Leadership in Engineering. His teaching philosophy emphasises bridging the gap between academic rigour and practical application in immersive technologies and research methodology.
