Now Hiring: Research Engineer – WiSAR Lab, ATU Donegal



The WiSAR Lab and Technology Gateway at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal is recruiting a Research Engineer to join our expanding team working at the forefront of wireless innovation, e-health, and wearable technologies.

The successful candidate will play a key role in two funded European projects focused on the development of wearable health monitoring technologies and body area network systems. These projects bring together international research and industry partners, offering opportunities to collaborate, present at international meetings, and contribute to impactful real-world solutions.

At WiSAR, we’ve been delivering innovative wireless solutions to industry for over 15 years. Our research spans IoT systems, body-worn devices, antenna design, and embedded systems, supporting the growth of next-generation health technologies and smart connected systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing wearable and embedded health technologies
  • Conducting and leading research under the supervision of senior investigators
  • Collaborating with international research and industry partners
  • Contributing to research publications and funding proposals
  • Supporting postgraduate research and project management activities

What we’re looking for:

  • A minimum 2.2 Honours degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • At least three years of postgraduate research or industry experience
  • Strong data science, programming, and modelling skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • A proactive approach to research and innovation

Desirable qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant field
  • Experience in Python (Scikit-learn, Keras, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
  • Familiarity with wearable electronics, SPSS, or digital health research
  • Previous experience in proposal writing, ethical approvals, or publications

Role details:

  • Location: ATU Donegal – Letterkenny
  • Contract: Specific purpose until 31 January 2028
  • Salary: €46,305 – €52,863
  • Hours: 39 hours per week
  • Closing date: 12 noon (Irish Local Time), 6 November 2025
