Celebrating Engineers Week & International Women’s Day (IWD) – Mahbloos Khan’s Inspiring Journey.
As we mark Engineers Week 2025 and International Women’s Day, WiSAR is proud to spotlight Mahbloos Khan, a TU Rise PhD scholar, whose journey embodies resilience, determination, and the power of breaking barriers in STEM.
Coming from a small village in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Mahbloos defied societal norms where women’s education is not always prioritised, and STEM fields remain male-dominated.
Her passion for engineering and design led her to pursue electrical engineering, earn a master’s in communication technologies, and now embark on her PhD research as a TU Rise scholar at WiSAR Lab, ATU Donegal.
Mahbloos’s journey has been filled with challenges, but her parents remained her greatest support system. Inspired by her father’s words—”Where there is a will, there is a way.”—she persevered and became the first female engineer and philosopher in her family.
As we celebrate Engineers Week and IWD, we recognise trailblazers like Mahbloos who are paving the way for the next generation of innovators.
Her message to young women in STEM: Believe in yourself, work hard, and never give up—no matter how tough the journey may seem. You will find your way.
At WiSAR, we celebrate Mahbloos and all women who are driving change in STEM. Their determination and brilliance are shaping a more inclusive and diverse future.
